Cross Nordics - Ski Tour 2025

Exotic skitour in Lapland from Russian border, through Finland, Sweden and Norway to shore of North-Atlantic 23.3. – 7.4.2025

We start our tour from the Russian border crossing station in tiny town of Salla, just north of polar circle in Eastern Finland. In eight days we cross Finland’s magic Lapland and reach Swedish border in town of Muonio. From there we continue six days more to North-West, passing mining town of Kiruna and higher fjallen, crossing Norwegian border and finally arriving to coast town of Narvik. In total 14 days we ski ca. 820km. Daily etappes are ca 50-70km and we ski mainly along snowmobile tracks, to where a skitrack is driven same day by local snowmobilist. Some days we pass skicenters and can utilize their permanent skitracks (in perfect condition). Free technic skiing is possible in some parts of the route.

Our service van moves your luggage to next accommodation and takes care of group’s daily breaks. You carry just your light daily backpack and enjoy 100% cross-country skiing in Lapland scenery.

For accommodation we use hotels, hostels, cabins and homestays (one night only). Mainly 2-4 persons are sleeping in same room.

Sun 23.3. Gathering at town of Salla. Wellcome info at 12.00. Transfer by bus to start at 13.00 (driving time ca. 30min). Skiing ca. 23km (Kelloselkä – Saija). Transfer by bus back to hotel in Salla.
Mon 24.3. Transfer by bus to start and skiing Saija  – Savukoski ca. 47km
Tue 25.3. Skiing Savukoski – Pelkosenniemi - Pyhätunturi ca. 70km
Wed 26.3. Skiing Pyhätunturi – Luosto – Sodankylä ca. 70km (first 30km groomed tracks)
Thu 27.3. Skiing Sodankylä – Tepsa ca. 55km
Fri 28.3. Skiing Tepsa – Levi ca. 70km
Sat 29.3. Skiing Levi – Äkäslompolo/Ylläs ca. 50km (groomed tracks)
Sun 30.3. Skiing Ylläs/Äkäslompolo – Muonio ca. 60km (ca. 40km permanent tracks)
Mon 31.3. Border crossing to Sweden. Skiing Muonio - Kitkiökärvi (SWE), ca. 30km
Tue 1.4. Skiing Kitkiöjärvi - Vittangi, ca. 80km
Wed 2.4. Skiing Vittangi - Jukkasjärvi, ca. 60km
Thu 3.4. Skiing Jukkasjärvi - Torneträsk, ca. 68km
Fri 4.4. Skiing Torneträsk - Abisko, ca. 50km
Sat 5.4. Skiing Abisko - Riksgränsen, ca 36km
Sun 6.4. Border crossing to Norway. Skiing Riksgränsen - Bjerkvik/Vassdalen (NOR), ca. 45km. Bustransfer to hotel and dinner together with diplomas etc.
Mon 7.4.  Travel to home 

We reserve to make changes into programme, due to weather conditions etc.

Basic daily programme is as follows (ca):
7.30 Breakfast
8.30 Departure for slower skiers
9.30 Departure for faster skiers
12.00 Lunch along the track (cafe/restaurant/lunch pack)
16.00 Arrival to hotel
18.00 Dinner (some days own expense)
19.00 Info for next day

Skitrack conditions varies a lot during the tour. Be prepared to ski also along "not so good"-tracks, because weather- and snow conditions will vary from day to day. We recommend participants to practise and/or test skis along  worse tracks also.

Who can take part of this tour?
If you are used to ski cross-country and are physically in good shape, you are very welcome. You do not need to be a race-skier, but should be able to ski 20km in two hours, as a guideline.
This is not a race, but you enjoy it more when in better condition :).

We can take max 40 skiers into this tour per section.

It is also possible to ski part of the tour: Finland (Salla-Muonio, 8 days) or Sweden+Norway (Muonio - Narvik/Vassdalen, 7 days).

CONNECTIONS TO START & FINISH

To Salla (start of the tour)
By air: There are daily flights to Rovaniemi and Kuusamo (www.finnair.fi)  from where you can reach Salla by bus (1-2 buss daily)
By train: There is daily night train (www.vr.fi) from Helsinki to Kemijärvi. From Kemijärvi there is direct bus connection to Salla after night train arrived. (Most of our finnish customers are supposed to use this connection)

Note! We can also arrange transfers from Rovaniemi airport to Salla or other solutions needed. Price depends on nr of passengers. Ask more! We shall find a solution.

From Narvik (end of the tour)
By Air: There are many daily flights from Narvik to Oslo (and furhter to intenational destinations).
We arrange charter bus transfer from Narvik to Rovaniemi (in Finland) from where you can fly or catch train to Helsinki and/or Rovaniemi (and fly further).

From/to Muonio:
If you choose to take part for half tour only. There are daily nightrains from Helsinki to Kolari (www.vr.fi).
From there there is busconnection to Muonio (ca 45min drive). Nearest Airport is Rovaniemi and there are 2-3 buses per day to Muonio (3-4hrs drive).

We shall contact participants late autumn to provide more information/tips about travels to/from the event.

PRICE (to be confirmed in autumn 2024):

Full tour (Salla - Narvik): 3350-3400€/person
Finland section only (Salla - Muonio): 1850-1900€/person
SWE+NOR section only (Muonio - Narvik): 1900-1950€/person

Seats are limited to 40 persons / section.

Additional charge:
- Hotel level room in Sweden 4/5/6apr, add. fee ca. 48€/night/person in shared dbl/twin room. Basic price includes hostel level accommodation for these nights.
- Sgl room 60-90€/night, very limited availability.
- overnight in Muonio 30.3. (if needed, when skiing SWE+NOR section only)
- Grouptransfer from Kemijärvi or Rovaniemi to Salla (if needed)
- Group transfer from Narvik to Rovaniemi (if needed) and  Muonio-Kolari v.v. accordingly
- Waxing service during the tour (incl. waxes). Ask more.

Booking fee 300€/person.
Middle payment at the end of October 400€/800€ (partial tour/full tour)
Final invoice ca. 2 months prior departure. 

Insurance:
Organisers have no insurance coverage for participants, but each one must take care of own insurance coverage by him/herself.
We recommend to have a good insurance coverage.

History of the tour:
First PPH was organized from Salla to Muonio in March 2021.
Similar tour has arranged then 2022, 2023 and 2024. Last year we continued cross Sweden and Norway. In 2025 we shall ski again full tour cross Finland, Sweden and Norway.

Cancellaltion terms:
Cancellation made latest 30.11. organizers hold 150/200€ (partial/full tour) registration fee to cover costs already occurred and and rest will be refunded.
Cancellation made latest 31.12. organizers hold 250/400€ (partial/full tour) registration fee to cover costs already occurred and and rest will be refunded.
Cancellations 1.1.2025 or later according to our general booking conditions.
In case trip must be cancelled by organisers (Covid19 etc) we hold €125/person and refund rest to customer.
